David Beckham is set to be godfather to the son of his best friend Dave Gardner and actress Liv Tyler. The couple, who welcomed their first child together in February, have reportedly chosen the former England footballer for the honour because they think he is a "great influence".

"Becks and Dave are close pals and go back years. They speak to each other all the time and their families are well connected," a source told The Sun. "They were best men for each other's weddings so are involved in their major events.

Liv and Dave's first son, Sailor, was born six weeks early on 11 February. The besotted parents have since shared several sweet photos of their newborn, including one of the little boy's bare feet.

"I'm so in love!!!" Liv wrote. The 37-year-old posted another image of herself cradling the eight-week-old boy over Easter, who was dressed in an adorable knitted bunny suit.

"Happy Easter! Beautiful family weekend in the sun @davidgardner76 @tabithasimmons. Love you," she captioned the image.

Dave began dating Lord of the Rings actress Liv after being introduced by mutual friend Kate Moss in summer 2014. The couple each have sons from their previous relationships; Liv has ten-year-old Milo from her marriage to Royston Langdon, while Dave is father to seven-year-old Gray with his ex Davinia Taylor.

The loved-up pair are often spotted out and about in New York together, and were joined by their sons to watch a basketball game on Thursday.
