Comedy duo Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins saw one of their pranks turn sour when they accidentally crashed Paul Hollywood's car into a ditch. The Great British Bake Off presenters took the Aston Martin out for a spin as a joke, only to lose control and end up damaging it.

Reminiscing on the disastrous practical joke, Sue said: "I nicked the key off [Paul] and we just drove off. I'd never driven an Aston Martin before.

"We couldn't turn it on but eventually it went... and we drove it into a ditch and had to phone a garage."

Needless to say Paul, who judges the BAFTA Award-winning show with culinary queen Mary Berry, was not impressed.

"Paul had the most spectacular humour failure I've ever seen," Sue, 45, added to Heatworld. "He was going to phone the police."

This is not the first time that Paul's beloved vehicle has been the victim of GBBO pranks. Last year fellow baking judge Mary, 80, defaced Paul’s silver car with a black marker. The celebrity chef was approached by a police officer who delivered the news.

"They said, 'Someone has written on your car – Mary has written on your car,'" Paul explained on The Jonathan Ross show.

"As I got closer to the car it just said: 'Love Mary x' with a Sharpie. I phoned her up because she was on her way home and I said: 'Mary what are you doing?'"

He joked: "But the police officer was there and she said: 'Would you like Mary arrested?' And I said: 'Yes I do – for criminal damage.'"

"I did get her back though because we were at Bake Off a week later and I couldn't get the pen off," Paul added. "And I said to her 'Mary, that's still on my car'. She went outside with a wet wipe, so I left her there for about half-an-hour."
