Adele confirmed her new album will be released on 20 November

Adele's announcement of her album release date comes just 24 hours after she released an emotional statement about her new music on Twitter, confirming that it will be called 25 and will be a "make-up record" that focuses on the point in her life where she became a "fully-fledged adult".

The statement explained that her long-awaited third album, which comes four-years after her Grammy-award winning release 21, will not dwell on the past but instead focus on the future.

"My last record was a break-up record and if I had to label this one I would call it a make-up record," Adele wrote. "I'm making up with myself. Making up for lost time. Making up for everything I ever did and never did. But I haven't got time to hold on to the crumbs of my past like I used to. What's done is done."

She continued: "Turning 25 was a turning point for me, slap bang in the middle of my twenties. Teetering on the edge of being an old adolescent and a fully-fledged adult, I made the decision to go into becoming who I'm going to be forever without a removal van full of my old junk."

The mother-of-one also apologised for keeping fans waiting for the new release, explaining: "I'm sorry it took so long, but you know, life happened."

Just three days earlier, she caused frenzy among fans with a television advertisement teasing her comeback. The 30-second clip, aired during Sunday night's episode of The X Factor, featured Adele's voice singing while the lyrics were displayed on a black screen.

Adele sang: "Hello, it's me. I was wondering if after all these years you'd like to meet to go over everything. They say that time's supposed to heal you, but I ain't done much healing."

It has long been speculated that the singer would be releasing the follow up to her Grammy-award winning album 21 in November, almost five years after her last release first hit the charts. Billboard reports that Adele has worked on music with artists including One Republic's Ryan Tedder, who co-wrote the hit Rumour has It on her last album. She is also said to have collaborated with music producers Danger Mouse and Max Martin on the long-awaited new tracks.
