Ben Affleck has spoken for the first time about the end of his marriage to Jennifer Garner, and her candid interview with Vanity Fair in which she opened up about their split. "She's allowed to talk about it," Ben told the New York Times, (reluctantly, the publication noted). "She felt like she wanted to discuss it and get it out there and get it over with, so she could say, 'Look, I already talked about it – I don't want to do it again.'"

Ben Affleck confirmed he and Jennifer are "on great terms"

In her interview, Jennifer, 43, referred to Ben as the "love of my life", and said: "He's the most brilliant person in any room, the most charismatic, the most generous. He's just a complicated guy. I always say, 'When his sun shines on you, you feel it.' But when the sun is shining elsewhere, it's cold. He can cast quite a shadow."

She also confirmed that she and Ben had been "separated for months", before he was linked to the family's nanny Christine Ouzounian, hired to care for the couple's children, Violet, 10, Seraphina, seven and four-year-old Sam.

"Let me tell you something. We had been separated for months before I ever heard about the nanny. She had nothing to do with our decision to divorce. She was not part of the equation," Jennifer stated. "Bad judgement? Yes. It's not great for your kids for (a nanny) to disappear from their lives. I have had to have many conversations (with my children) about the meaning of scandal."

Since their split, Ben and Jennifer have made a number of public appearances and had private meet-ups, which the actor noted have not just been for show. "Jen's great. She's a great person," Ben said. "We're on great terms. I just saw her this morning, so that's the reality that I live in."
