David Beckham on leaving his kids for work: 'I get physically ill'

He's known as a family man who loves spending time with his four children, but with his schedule becoming increasingly more busy, David Beckham says he finds it difficult to balance his work and home life.

David opened up about his work and home life

The 40-year-old, who shares Brooklyn, 17, Romeo, 13, Cruz, 11 and four-year-old Harper with fashion designer Victoria Beckham, discussed his life at home with his family.

"I’m secure as a person, as a husband, as a dad. I’ve gone past the point of really worrying, caring," he told GQ magazine, touching on how details of his life have long been the subject of headlines.

The doting dad finds it hard to leave his kids while he works

In his first-ever cover for the publication, the sportsman revealed that he is still a busy man, despite announcing his retirement in May 2013. As his work life gets busier, the father-of-four finds it hard to leave his family at home while he takes care of business.

"I get physically ill when I have to leave the kids now," he said. When he’s at home, he and his only daughter Harper spend hours watching Frozen, and he also enjoys the endless reruns of hit sitcom Friends.

David became a football star at the age of 17

The star, who started his legendary football career at the age of 17, said that he couldn’t help but think of returning to the pitch one day. "I miss soccer every day," David said. "I don’t know whether it’s the athlete in me, or the passion I have for the game - I always think that I can step back on the field and play."

Suggesting a possible comeback to football, he said: "You know, maybe I could play another year in the U.S. If I was still living in L.A., I’d probably really seriously think about coming back for a year. But we’re living in London, and the kids are happy in the school..."
