Speaking to Ellen DeGeneres on The Ellen Show, Nicki denied the engagement rumours, saying: "It's not an engagement ring. I have these two rings from this boy that likes me… That's not my engagement ring. That's my second ring and he said if I got a third ring that would be my engagement ring."

When Ellen asked the Super Bass star if she was ready to be engaged, Nicki replied: "I don't know, we're still figuring each other out.

"In fact, I don't want to say I'm in a relationship anymore because when people hear that they want to go to the main place."

Nicki admitted that she would rather be referred to as single as the attention on her relationship was too intense. She said: "I'm just saying I'm single because like for instance, Valentine's day I didn't put up my Valentine's gift on Instagram and people were saying 'they're not together'… meanwhile we were really in bed the whole time… and then I got up and opened these three amazing gifts and then I went back to bed.

"It just made me realise that no matter what no matter how great your life is you can't even impress people you just have to do you and make yourself happy and stop trying to get people's approval and keep those things sacred so now I don't really care to say I'm in a relationship or engaged or whatever - there's a boy who likes me."

Nicki has always made it clear that she doesn't want to be defined by her relationship to Meek, telling Nylon magazine: "Being in a relationship shouldn't mean that you lose your voice. Being in a relationship should mean that you've met a secure-enough man to allow you, in a sense, to remain a queen."
