Amber Heard has been granted a restraining order against Johnny Depp, claiming she had been physically assaulted by the actor and "lived in fear" during their relationship.

The couple split after 15 months of marriage, with Amber filing for divorce citing "irreconcilable differences" at Los Angeles Superior Court, dating the day of their separation as Sunday 22 May.

The Pineapple Express actress returned to court a few days later to request a restraining order, claiming that there had been three cases of domestic abuse in the last six months, with an event in December 2015 that made her "truly feared that my life was in danger."

In court documents she wrote: "I live in fear that Johnny Depp will return to [our home] unannounced to terrorise me, physically and emotionally.

"During the entirety of our relationship Johnny has been verbally and physically abusive to me. I endured excessive emotional, verbal and physical abuse which has included angry, hostile, humiliating and threatening assaults to me whenever I questioned his authority or disagreed with him."

Speaking of the latest incident, she wrote that her husband had thrown his phone at her and hit her in a rage, saying: "He then forcibly pulled back my hair as I attempted to stand up from the sofa. Johnny continued screaming at me, pulling my hair, striking me and violently grabbing my face."

She also submitted photos of evidence, showing her with a large bruise on her cheek which could still be seen as she left Court.

Amber was granted a temporary order by the judge, meaning that the Pirates of the Caribbean actor has to stay at least 100 yards away from her until their next hearing, which will take place in June.

Johnny did not appear in court as the actor is currently on tour promoting his latest release Alice Through The Looking Glass, and was last seen looking in good spirits at a charity event in Portugal. Photographer Kyler Clark shared a photo of the 52-year-old on Instagram, captioning the photo: "#JohnnyDepp and #AliceCooper fitting and adjusting hearing aids for a lovely woman in Lisbon, Portugal before their performance at @rockinriolisboa.
