Tom Hiddleston is tackling conspiracy theories about his relationship with Taylor Swift head on. The 35-year-old actor denied reports that the couple's romance in a 'publicity stunt' in two different interviews on Thursday.

When asked about the rumours by the Hollywood Reporter, Tom replied: "Well, um. How best to put this? The truth is that Taylor Swift and I are together, and we're very happy." He added: "That's the truth. It's not a publicity stunt."

The Thor star also confirmed the legitimacy of the relationship with MTV, saying: "We are together and we're very happy."

Tom and Taylor have been inseparable ever since they were pictured cuddling up on a beach near her Rhode Island home last month. They have travelled to the UK, Italy and Australia, celebrated the Fourth of July together – where Tom was seen wearing an 'I heart TS' tank top - and have even met each other's parents.

Their public romance has attracted critics, however, and some have speculated that their union is part of an elaborate music video.

It's been a rollercoaster week for the high-profile couple. On Thursday, Tom – who is currently filming Thor: Ragnarok in Australia – received the good news that he has been nominated for an Emmy for his role in the hit BBC series The Night Manager.

"I didn't have any expectations, and suddenly my phone started blowing up a couple of hours ago," he said of his first ever Emmy nomination. "This is the most wonderful surprise."

Taylor, meanwhile, came under fire from her ex-boyfriend Calvin Harris on Wednesday, when he took to Twitter to criticise her in a row over one of his songs.

Taylor's representatives publicly confirmed that she had written his hit track What You Came For this week – and a short time later, Calvin took to social media to have his say.

"Hurtful to me at this point that her and her team would go so far out of their way to try and make ME look bad at this stage though," he wrote, adding: "I figure if you're happy in your new relationship you should focus on that instead of trying to tear your ex bf down for something to do."
