Barbara Gibb, mother of the Bee Gees, dies aged 95

Barbara Gibb – mother of the Bee Gees – has passed away at the age of 95. She died from natural causes on Friday evening at her home in Miami, where she had lived for the past 20 years, according to a publicist for eldest son Barry Gibb. She is survived by Barry and her daughter Lesley.

Manchester-born Barbara married Hugh Gibb, a bandleader for the Hughie Gibb Orchestra in May 1944. The following year, the couple welcomed their first child, Lesley, followed by eldest son Barry in 1946, twins Robin and Maurice in 1949, and Andy in 1958.

Together, husband and wife managed their sons' early careers; the Bee Gees went on to become one of the most successful pop bans in history, selling more than 200 million records worldwide, and Andy had a hugely successful solo career with a number of top 10 singles.

Her youngest son Andy tragically passed away in 1988 aged just 30

Sadly, three of Barbara's five children passed away during her lifetime. Andy died in 1988 aged just 30 from the heart condition myocarditis; Maurice Gibb died in 2003 aged 50 due to complications from a twisted intestine, and his twin Robin died in 2012 at the age of 62 from liver and kidney failure after battling cancer.
