It wasn't long before the smitten Punked star took his A-list love home to Iowa to meet his mum Diane – pictured in 2002. Again, there was a distinct no-frills feel to proceedings.

"What I've found is when you meet many of these so-called celebrities in person, they are really down to earth," said his mum, of her future daughter-in-law.

She added that they "sat and talked about her kids and my kids, and we had a great time", eating "enchiladas and ham, chicken breast - you know, the regular Iowa meals".
