From Darcy to King George: why Hollywood's giving Colin the royal treatment
In Love Actually, the quintessentially English star had another on-screen romance that entranced movie viewers. He played a writer seeking refuge from an unhappy marriage in Portugal.
Of course, in real life he's happily married to documentary maker Livia, whom he describes as: "an Italian beauty and the smartest beauty on the planet".
In the film Colin's love affair with his Portuguese cleaning lady, with neither of them speaking each other's language was one of the delights of the plot.
And the self-deprecating actor was happy to be part of an ensemble and share screen time with a top draw cast.
“For me it was a simple pleasure from beginning to end," he said. "I could just jump right in and feel so little pressure as I’m not carrying the film".
"My whole story line could have been a total catastrophe and it wouldn’t be the end of the world.”
