And Take That star Gary was happy with the results: "We have got the cream of the crop with our finalists and it was tough for all of us to choose our three acts," he said. "The standard of talent has gone up this year and I think it’s the best ever line-up of finalists. "Sixteen-year-old Ella Henderson has been pitted as this year's favourite, whilst Jahmene Douglas and James Arthur are also contenders. However, the show would not be the same without a twist.

Each judge has also been allowed to nominate a "wildcard" for the competition, bringing the total number of acts up to 16.Contestants Christopher Maloney, Adam Burridge, Amy Mottramand and Times Red will all take part in the first show to battle for one place in the competition.

The first live programme will be broadcast on Saturday October 6 at 8pm.
