Olivier Martinez and Halle Berry expecting a baby boy

Olivier Martinez has let slip that fiancé Halle Berry is expecting a boy. It was widely thought that the couple were preparing for a baby boy, but the French actor confirmed the gender when speaking at the Champs-Elysées Film Festival. "My son will be an American, but I remain French," Olivier, 47, told PEOPLE at the opening night of the festival on Wednesday. He is serving as this year's honorary president and Halle will attend as a special guest of honour. The couple, who were engaged in January 2012, have lived in the United States for the past two years and Olivier feels more or less settled, but said he remains a French national at heart.

"I remain a Frenchman in America, but I adapt to American culture. I feel good there — but I’m still a foreigner," he said. "My son will be an American." The baby boy will be Olivier's first child, and is expected to be born in October. Halle, 46, already has a five-year-old daughter Nahla from her previous relationship with model Gabriel Aubry. The couple plan to move back to Olivier's home country when Nahla turns 18. They had wanted to move to France sooner, but a US judged ruled against this as it would prevent Gabriel from having regular access to his daughter.

The X-Men star has admitted that getting pregnant at her age "has been the biggest surprise" of her life, but felt "fantastic" on finding out. She recently fought off speculation of the baby's gender last month, joking, "We don't know what we're having. We're having a baby, that's for sure."
