Real Madrid's management frowns on its players indulging in late night
partying, so posh restaurants are the favoured destination when team-mates
go out on the town.
There's no shortage of upmarket eateries in Madrid: Asador Donostiarra is a favourite with the rest of the
Madrid team, while Txistu and El Cabo Mayor are both popular with the
cream of Madrid society, including King Juan Carlos. Other options are Zalacain or Restaurant Jockey, where they can mingle with regulars Penelope Cruz and Enrique Iglesias.
Spain is famed for its fine wines and healthy “Mediterranean diet”, which focuses on simply cooked fish and meat, fresh fruit and vegetables and, of course, olive oil. Salads and the traditional chilled soup known as gazpacho see Spaniards through the summer, while excellent roasts are the basis of winter dining. |
