| Hollywood hardman Patrick Swayze is used to death-defying feats on screen, but there was nothing fictional about the problems he ran into while piloting his Cessna 414A from Van Nuys, California, to Las Vegas in 2000. His aircraft lost cabin pressure at 13,000 feet and the actor was forced to perform an emergency landing. Seeing what he thought was a runway, the Dirty Dancing star made a steep descent, but at the last moment realised he was about to land on a public highway. He narrowly missed a truck and, just before touchdown, hit a streetlight with one wing, sending the plane into a roll. Accident investigators said the cockpit showed signs of Patrick's heavy smoking and deposits of tar around the doors might have contributed to a loss of cabin pressure. Miraculously, neither Patrick nor his two dogs were injured. |
