The Chelsea Flower Show is a regular stop for the Royal Family, but in 2004 the engagement was an especially memorable one for Prince Edward's wife.
It was there she experienced her first whiff of the Countess of Wessex rose, a creamy white blossom with golden yellow stamens, which flowers year round.
And as Sophie joined fellow rose-honoured royals such as Queen Elizabeth and Princess Diana in the gardening history books, husband Edward wasted no time in procuring one of the new Countess of Wessex roses to wear in his lapel for the afternoon.
