| Movie veteran Paul Newman once joked that "from salad dressing, all
blessings flow". Paul has been pumping all the profits from his food
company, Newman's Own, into charities for over 20 years now. He says this
ethos of generosity stems from seeing his father's company almost collapse
during the great Depression. Spalding and Wilson stepped in to rescue the
family's sporting goods business, and thereby saved it from ruin. Paul has
so far donated over $125 million to a variety of housing, education,
disaster relief and food aid programmes. "I respect generosity in people," he
says. "I don't look at it as philanthropy, I see it as an investment in the
community." |
