Following the split Jemima found herself yet again in a new phase of life, re-emerging on the London social scene for David Frost's annual garden party in July. But it was the presence at the society bash of actor Hugh Grant – who was rumoured to be more than just a pal to the separated socialite – which fanned the flame of romance rumours.
Hugh and Jemima would subsequently go to extraordinary measures to avoid being photographed together, arriving and departing separately from a string of social events. Then, in a scene which echoed one from Hugh-vehicle Notting Hill, the 44-year-old actor was photographed gathering up the newspapers from Jemima's doorstep early one morning, an apparent confirmation of the new relationship.
