During seven frenetic minutes per chukka, rival teams cover terrain equal to ten football pitches
A game of polo is divided into six or eight "chukkas" of seven minutes each. There is a three-minute interval between each chukka and a five-minute break at half time. During play each team, generally consisting of four players, must try to get the ball through their opponents' goal posts, which are 24 feet apart. This is easier said than done, and all the players must be ready to switch from offensive to defensive play in an instant.
