|Nice guy Dr Fred Fonseca certainly created a stir when he moved to Albert Square in 1999. But the actor who brought the character to life, Jimi Mistry, made waves of his own in the film industry after leaving the soap.
Jimi's big break came with East Is East in 1999. He followed the culture clash comedy with smaller films such as Born Romantic and My Kingdom before headlining the Bollywood spoof The Guru with American star Heather Graham and Oscar-winner Marisa Tomei in 2002.
After taking a break, the hard-working actor returned in 2004, releasing no fewer than five films. In them, he shared the spotlight with a varied list of stars, including Robert Carlyle, Dougray Scott, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Gary Oldman, Joanna Lumley, Minnie Driver and Eric Idle. This year he begins filming Partition, a WWII love story co-starring Neve Campbell.
