Princess Sayako of Japan had two wedding outfits - a traditional gown and her mother's beautiful kimono |
It was a very different style of royal wedding for Japan's Princess Sayako. In line with tradition, the only daughter of Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko forfeited her title after tying the knot with 40-year-old urban planner Yoshiki Kuroda. The pair were married in a formal but low-key Shinto ceremony at Tokyo's plush Imperial Hotel.
The bride wore a simple western-style dress accessorised with a string of pearls, before changing into one of her mother's beautiful cream kimonos for the reception. While only 30 guests witnessed the ceremony itself, 120 attended the French haute cuisine dinner, including her parents who broke with Imperial Household customs to attend.
