Product review: Kenwood FP950 Food Processor Enlarge

In addition to coming with a whole raft of essential attachments, the Kenwood FP950 has an inspired 'extra' – it can weigh!

12 MARCH 2009

Kenwood decided to push the boat out when it designed this piece of kit; a lot of work has gone into resolving the niggles which have plagued food mixers in the past.

Stylish and smart, the FP950 has smooth edges, easy-locking mechanisms and a modern blue display. And rather than the usual on/off/pulse buttons it has a dial to speed up and slow down the processing or mixing.

It comes with a beating attachment - perfect for mixing eggs and sugar or whipping cream or meringue - that fits inside the bowl. The grating blades are simple to fit and don't turn the food to mush. And there's an extra plus in the pusher one inserts in the top. It's gauged, which means even if you're grating a single carrot it won't go through wonky and leave you with any un-grated stuff.

Other natty attachments include a dough hook for turning out bread and pizzas and a liquidiser element, perfect for smoothies and milkshakes. There are also the usual citrus press and juicer, while a small mill for herbs, spices and nuts makes a very handy add-on.

Kenwood has even designed a storage device that sits on top of the mixer to hold all the attachments apart from the liquidiser. Nifty.

But the icing on the cake, and frankly an inspired addition, has to be the fact that the FP950 can weigh. Yes, finally a food mixer with scales. It seems such a logical step it's a wonder no-one had thought of it before.

All in all – a great addition to the kitchen. If you've only got room for one gadget, this is ideal.

Kenwood FP950, £199.99, available in all good cookshops and department stores.
