Dining public pick top ten local British restaurants

Results of annual poll reveal the nation's favourite independent eateries

23,000 votes were cast in the poll by restaurant review book The Good Food Guide

The United Kingdom’s top regional restaurants have been decided in a nationwide poll. From March to May members of the public were asked by restaurant review book The Good Food Guide to nominate independently-owned restaurants, ideally that were sourcing locally and cooking regional specialities. This year more than 23,000 votes were counted both via postcard and online.

Amongst the winners this year were some heavyweight seafood contenders, including Maison Bleue in Bury St Edmunds and Mourne Seafood in Belfast. London’s L’Etranger, located in prestigious South Kensington, also one of the top ten, specialise in a range of the classic French tartare, traditional consisting of raw beef mixed with spices and an egg yolk.

Other restaurants that have hit the top spots are Glasgow’s famous Ubiquitous Chip, whose classic Scottish Cranachan recipe has featured in our foodie blog and the Michelin-starred Yorke Arms in Ramsgill, Yorkshire.

The overall champion will be announced at the Which? Awards on June 9 to be held at the British Museum.
