Whip up some Wimbledon classics

Sports fans are in for a treat over the next couple of weeks – and foodie fans too as bars and restaurants get creative to celebrate the World Cup and Wimbledon.

The strawberry is synonymous with Wimbledon – a bowl of the red gems and some thick, yellowy cream make the perfect snack to watch a match – washed down with a glass of bubbles of course.

Football snackage may be a little less delicate but can be just as simple and delicious – steak sarnies with horseradish crème fraiche, jerk chicken drumsticks with jerk mayo, sausages with home-made barbecue sauce – and the drink of choice really has to be an ice cold beer. You could probably get away with a mojito too!

Here are a couple of recipes from Paul Merrett, chef proprietor of The Victoria in Sheen. These are taken from Paul’s fab new book, The Allotment Chef.
