Off on a culinary adventure

02 AUGUST 2011 James Ramsden and his sister have run a brilliantly successful supper club from their London home for a number of years now – often themed with a quirky, eclectic mix of cooking styles and culinary influences, their menus always sound delicious and inspirational.

In his first book, Small Adventures in Cooking, James shares these recipes and more, made all the more appealing by their simple, easy-to-cook at home style – you won’t find fancy cheffery here.



The recipes aren’t labour-intensive, complicated or with gigantic long lists of ingredients (we’ve all been there – opened a recipe up and thought “Phew” and quickly put the book back on the shelf!).

The adventures of the title aren’t the go crazy travelling the globe searching for the weirdest ingredients – they are the small adventures – the trip to the butcher for an unusual cut, or the sourcing of a spice to give a dish an unusual, aromatic edge.

 Recipes appeal in their creativity, simplicity and flavours, from speedy after suppers like lamb neck fillets with harissa and chickpea salad, food for your friends like grilled aubergine with tahini and pomegranate to the luscious, slow-cooked numbers, perfect for a lazy Sunday like pork belly with cider and lentils.
