Time for tea

30 AUGUST 2011 Bea’s of Bloomsbury now sits in the realms of London institution. Rarely a day goes by without mention from one lucky so and so or other of their fantastic baked good that are sold in one of their two shop-cum-cafes. Windows are packed with teetering layer cakes, meringues and cupcakes stacked high drawing in customers. In her first book.

Tea with Bea, Bea shares her recipes which pleasingly are decidedly easy to cook at home. This is a book packed full of perfect tin-fillers – lavender shortbread, double chocolate chip cookies; ideas for afternoon tea – scones (the ultimate scone recipe, no less), small cakes and macaroons.

For the posher tea time treat, there is a chapter dedicated to delicious tarts – golden whisky pecan custard pie or classic key lime to whet your appetite a touch. Bea puts her cake success down to a handful of reliable recipes that she can chop and change as she needs and the cake chapter provides a solid platform from which you can embellish your own ideas. Cheesecakes, that ultimate luxury, play a role too.

Tea with Bea published by Ryland, Peters & Small, RRP £16.99
