A designer palette: Cookbook reveals Christian Dior's favourite foods

How do you fancy sitting down to the ultimate designer dinner? Thanks to Christian Dior you can do just that.

Fans of fashion and food can now get their hands on all the French designer's favourite recipes in a very special cookbook created by the man himself.

The iconic couturier released his book La Cuisine Cousu-Main back in 1972, making only 4,000 copies. But foodie fashionistas can now get their hands on this hard-to-get-hold-of book, thanks to Asprey who have released a first edition for £485.

Giving a tantalising insight into the palette of the master creator, it includes recipes such as Oysters Au Sherry - poached oysters served with reduced sherry, finely chopped shallot, double cream and breadcrumbs - and Partridge Au Dom Perignon.

Not only does the book represents a collection of all the recipes loved by Dior, who was a passionate gourmet, but it is illustrated by famous fashion illustrator Rene Gruau, making it a super stylish edition to any kitchen. And it comes in its original aluminum casing with an original recipe bookmark.

Unbelievably Dior was said to be insecure about his status within the fashion world - but he remained confident in the kitchen. He reportedly once toyed with the idea of putting his name to a new culinary venture with his managing director Jaques Rouet.

"We could do a Dior ham or a Dior roast beef, perhaps," he apparently remarked. "I know lots of recipes, and, who knows, one day I might need something to fall back on."
