The perfect party cake from baking actress Jane Asher

28 MAY 2013

Jane Asher was the essence of London in the Swinging Sixties – an actress famous for her flaming red hair, glamorous lifestyle and her five-year relationship with Paul McCartney.

Now the actress, cook and writer is not only a big star on the screen and stage, she has penned several best-selling baking books and owns Jane Asher Party Cakes in Chelsea, which is still the go-to address for exquisitely decorated patisserie.

The Prince of Wales is among her clients and the shop even caters for 'saucy' confectionery and creative, bespoke cakes.

Jane, 67, who has appeared in numerous plays, films, on TV and radio during her 60-year career, can even trade baking tips with the queen of baking herself – she has been friends with fellow cake-maker and Bake Off judge Mary Berry for years.

In the countdown to the summer the actress and baking princess has shared one of her light and airy cake recipes with HELLO Online, specially created to support the first ever National Gardens Festival Weekend in June.

By taking part in the largest ever national garden opening festival on 15-16 June you can help raise money for nursing and caring charities. And what better way to do it than by relaxing in one of the beautiful gardens across the UK that opens just a few times a year.

Treat garden party guests to a slice of this delectable cake, featuring edible rose petals and a crunch of pistachio flavour, to be served with a few raspberries or strawberries this summer...
