Gordon Ramsay has spoken candidly about his relationship with his four children and revealed how he juggles family life with maintaining his impressive empire. The 50-year-old celebrity chef opened up to his fans during a Q&A session on website Reddit this week, and he revealed that his children had not visited his Michelin-starred eponymous restaurant until two years ago because he didn't want them to be "waited hand and foot on because it was their daddy's restaurant".

When one user asked the Hell's Kitchen star how he kept his kids down-to-earth despite his own fame and success, Gordon explained that he was determined to first teach them to have a strong work ethic before introducing them to the glamorous side of his job by taking them to his highly-acclaimed restaurant.

Gordon Ramsay opened up about his family life during a Q&A on Reddit

"I only took them there for the first time two years ago," he wrote in reply. "Because there was no way on earth that I was ever going to introduce to them that level of food and be served by twenty waiters and waited hand and foot on because it was their daddy's restaurant." He continued: "I need to protect them and respect the restaurant and team in my restaurant. I made them as normal as possible, like I said, from the beginning they had a work ethic."

Heading an empire that already boasts various cookbooks, critically-acclaimed restaurants and hit television series, Gordon explained how he is teaching his own children how to carve out a path to success. "They've all got jobs, they've all taken care of animals, they've all got housework. There's a rotor," he admitted. "They get pocket money, but they have to earn that pocket money."

Gordon revealed why he only recently took his children to his restaurant

Describing his children as "hard-working, passionate individuals that have respect for others and respect for life", Gordon revealed that his children already have a set of impressive ambitions; Megan is currently studying Philosophy at Oxford Brookes, Jack wants to be a marine and Holly is hoping to pursue a career in fashion. Meanwhile, daughter Matilda seems to be already following in her dad's footsteps. "Tilly, Matilda, is the chef of the family," he wrote. "She has her own show on CBVCs on the BBC in the UK."
