Dresses throughout the style extravaganza, which came to a close on Thursday, were cleverly cinched and tied in a seemingly infinite number of ways in collections shown at the capital's Natural History Museum.

Nowhere was the waist making a more triumphant comeback than at Nicole Farhi. Floral chiffon gowns, as well as more structured linen day-dresses were all accessorized with leather belts. Meanwhile at FrostFrench, the label's trademark barely-there range included vibrant shirts and hot pants worn with silk ribbons or sashes.

Over at Ghost chief designer Tanya Sarne sent sundresses in pastel shades of aqua, raspberry and green gliding down the runway. Skirts were accented with bows, before cascading below the knee in a froth of asymmetric frills.

Betty Jackson's show opened with a chocolate-brown coat circled at the waist with a ribbon. There followed a succession of summery dresses with curvy bodices nipped in at the midriff to highlight the season's favourite area of the body.
