It wasn't that the models showing flashes of pretty lingerie had forgotten to get fully dressed, this was John Galliano's saucy recreation of the backstage mayhem at a Fifties fashion show

Dramatic jewel-encrusted jackets worn with stockings and suspenders, sumptuous satin skirts teamed with a bra – it could only be John Galliano's extravagant vision at the start of this week's Paris fashion shows.

Entitled 'Cabine Fever', his haute couture collection for Dior, strived to recreate the atmosphere behind the scenes of a Fifties fashion show.

The intriguing scenario - played out by catwalk lovelies in various states of gorgeous undress - was inspired by archive footage of founder Christian Dior backstage surrounded by his favourite models.

This being Galliano, the concept had been given a thrilling modern twist.

So the pretty lingerie and corsetry underpinning the famous Dior 'hourglass' silhouette was coupled with eye-wateringly bright fuchsia and chartreuse designs.

Among those tasked with following this spectacular treat are the young Brit pack.

Christopher Kane, Roksansa Ilincic and Richard Nicoll are just some of the UK designers being given a chance to show off their wares on Tuesday.

'Les Brits' were due to be followed by couture offerings from Parisian darling Christian Lacroix and A-list frock king Giorgio Armani, a favourite with Julia Roberts and Cate Blanchett, in a venue by the Eiffel Tower.
