Tulisa vs. Nicole: The best of the 'X Factor' fashion face-off

16 NOVEMBER 2012 The rivalry is fierce onstage as the contestants battle it out to keep their place in the nation's favourite singing competition.

But fans of the X Factor remain just as transfixed by the unspoken battle taking place each week as judges Tulisa Contostavlos and Nicole Scherzinger go head-to-head in the style stakes.

Dressed to impress in their best designer glad rags and skyscraper showstoppers, the ladies always look fabulous.  

Tulisa is the epitome of elegance and sophistication in her sparkling numbers. The N-Dubz singer dazzled on Saturday November 10 in a gold sequin-embellished gown (right) created by the legendary London-based Alice Temperley (Fall 2008 collection). The shimmery beaded 1920’s inspired number was teamed with black Kurt Geiger heels, Folli Follie bangles and a cute, cropped hairstyle.

She also opted for glitz and lady-like glamour in her Jovani 4276 Lavender – a light blue & silver embellished long sleeved cocktail mini dress. The sheer showstopper accentuated her curves with its figure-hugging form, while also remaining graceful and perfectly preened with long, flowing locks.

There is no denying these outfits tick all the fashion boxes. And with her new clothing line that has just hit the high street (TFB by Tulisa for Bank), it's certain there will be plenty more to please from the newly turned fashionista as the competition on the X Factor starts to hot up.

Also excelling in the style stakes is fellow judge Nicole.

Whether wearing the daring androgynous white Jean-Pierre Barganza suit, red Alexander Mcqueen or even the racy Halloween Julien Macdonald catsuit complete with a black feather headpiece and sky-high platform heels, the former Pussycat Doll's looks go from strength to strength – like the performances on the show.

The 34-year-old soared high above her competitor in the wardrobe war, when she appeared in a floaty floor-length gown (left) with strapless neckline for the fashion-off against Tulisa in week 6 of the X Factor.

Contrasting completely with Tulisa’s glammed up party look – an all-black bodycon with see-through mesh panels on the side – Nicole’s chiffon mushroom coloured dress was demure and effortless.

But despite the occasional, undeniable vanquish, Nicole and Tulisa exude confidence in their chic ensembles week by week as they lead their equally style-savvy contestants – such as Ella Henderson – into the realm of success.

And it seems they even went coordinated in complementing colours with their similar lace frocks for the week 5 'razzle dazzle' themed night. Nicole kept her look simple with her hair swept back, sporting a nude coloured Bibi Bachtadze lace number with ruffled peplum waist and matching strappy heels while Tulisa wore a monochrome encrusted cocktail dress. The Kruszynska couture frock featured three-quarter length sleeves and detailed black mid-body pattern, which was teamed with Kurt Geiger peep-toe heels.
