Timeless elegance and vintage sophistication: Oscar de la Renta's latest wares

Legendary Oscar de la Renta showcased his latest fashion collection in New York on Monday. The pre-fall 2013 show saw an array of classic silhouettes with nipped-in waists and boat necklines. Pastel tones, embellished pieces, patchwork prints and bold polka dots formed the style foundations of the fashion house’s latest look.

A vintage air swept the runway, bringing with it a theme of timeless elegance and sophistication. And while the catwalk saw a very intriguing combination of contrasting colours including lemon yellow, sea-foam turquoise and monochrome, the couturier adhered to his renowned reputation for luxury evening wear with an altogether feminine approach.

From the slinky satin off the shoulder gown, stunning silver number with marabou feather touches to the princess pink Tilda Lindstam’s ball gown – the award-winning designer, famous for red carpet ensembles, didn't disappoint by any means.

Oscar de la Renta adopted a whirl-wind of different shades for the new collection which included a show-stopping yellow ball gown with silver floral embroidery and a contrasting knee-length apricot colored strapless dress with vintage-styled flared skirt, ruffled detail and an ornate buckled belt

Despite the designer's usual association with ball gowns and red-carpet numbers, Oscar de la Renta also incorporated several suits and separates into the new collection. Of particular sartorial style was a navy suit, which was teamed with a crisp white button-down shirt and pretty cropped fitted jacket, along with a polka dot printed peplum top and accesorised with sparkly jewellery

Black cocktail gowns were showcased in every shape and form including a slinky black sequin gown with a plunging neckline, spotted black and white strapless gown with a huge bow over the bust and satin off-the-shoulder floor-length number

The designer's use of busy geometric motifs with altering cuts and hemlines go hand in hand with the all monochrome palette for thse fashionable pieces

Since orange (tangerine tango) was crowned colour of the year for 2012 by experts Pantone, it's no woner the designer opted for this colour one last time before the end of the year. An explosion of bright colour burst onto the catwalk on Monday, models filed out in altering hemlines, vintage belts and dazzling earrings

From the shimmering aquamarine mini dress, beaded turquoise calf-length dress, to the forest green jacket ensemble, the world famous designer, Oscar de la Renta, was fearless to shy away from colour this pre-fall collection

The sparkling silver caviar-beaded fringe gown complimented the appliquéd, pastel ballgowns perfectly which were without doubt the prize designs of the show and featured voluminous skirts and embroidered detail

Artistic floral prints and contrasting crosshatch patterned black stockings decorated the runway giving the innovative fashion collection a fresh, autumnal feel with a vintage inspired theme
