A frenzy of fashion fun backstage at New York Fashion Week 2012

The fashion season is well and truly upon us and up next, it's New York Fashion Week! Well-heeled fashionistas will descend on the capital of cool like clockwork this week. Look to the likes of Victoria Beckham – who arrived at JFK airport on Sunday – who will be joined by a parade of  A-listers and a perennial best dressed front-row crowd.

And as we await with bated breath, preparing for bewitching designs to make their first fashion appearance at Lincoln Center from the 7th – 14th february in the Big Apple, HELLO! Online looks back at last year’s funnest, finest model moments and the best of backstage beauty.

Expected on a sneak peak at any fashion show backstage, you could presume the following  – model mayhem, last minute wardrobe malfunctions and stressed stylists running back and forth in a frantic flurry. But captured in this photo gallery, while flashbulbs were popping and music blaring on the catwalk ahead, models from last year were full of fun behind the scenes. They donned their finest attire, smiling photogenically and freely, while each outfit remained as covetable as the last.

And if last year's collections are anything to go by, this year’s autumn/winter 2013 collection is set to be a sight to behold. Expect an illustrious club of designers – think all-american Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein to more edgy Zac Posen, Carolina Herrera and Diane Von Furtsenberg.

Dressed to impress and runway ready, models from last February's Altuzarra show strike a pose backstage before getting ready to strut their stuff on the catwalk. Meanwhile, Toni Garrn (right) practised her walk in a metallic gold show-stopper before taking to the stage for the Prabal Gurung autumn/winter 2012 collection

Models Kasia Struss and Cora Emmanuel flaunt Tommy Hilfiger's latest wares for the autumn/winter 2012 collection while Candice Swanepoel (right)shows off an apres-ski wooly knit ensemble designed by Michael Kors

Finishing touches backstage can make or break a fashion show's success. And right before the 3.1 Phillip Lim fashion show, models were the centre of attention as they were prepped and preened by hairdressers and make-up artists. On the right by contrast, model Aymeline Valade poses in dark and dreamy Diane Von Furstenberg design

Midi skirts and pleated patterns paraded down the Marc by Marc Jacobs runway last year. Jasmine Tookes (left), Lindsay Wixsen (right) and Hannah Holman y Xiao Wen Jun (centre) were among the models to try out their quirky poses backstage before taking to the main stage

South African stunner Candice Swanepoel showed off the intricate Prabal Gurung design that featured ruffled feathers and delicate back detail. And taking a moment to relax, before the hectic Lacoste show commenced, models Julia Nobis and Hanne Gaby Odiele listened to a little music

Model Madisyn Ritland admires Julia Stegna's look designed for the Zac Posen collection (left). On the right, Kendra Spears tweets before stepping onto the Herve Leger by Max Azria runway and in the centre, Andreea Diaconu smiles sweetly while sporting a tartan Ralph Lauren creation and plum colours gloves

On the left, models await their big moment on the Thakoon catwalk (left) while stylists adjust the finishing touches to the maroon Peter Som creations (right)

Dazzling in all-black and silver metallic, the models of the Cushnie et Ochs catwalk were all smiles before the big show. By contrast, Dorothea Barth Jorgensen and Jasmine Tookes retained their supermodel status through and through as they flaunted the DKNY wear backstage
