With the majority of us still mourning the end of the festive season while we stay indoors wrapped up in cosy knits, the summer may still seem a distant dream. But, luckily for us style fiends, fashion is always looking ahead. It's never too early to decide what styles are going to be on your shopping list next season and inform yourself of what's hot and what's not, especially when it comes to investment pieces. So, after hours spent poring over the catwalk photos from all the top designers who showed in New York, Paris, Milan and London, HELLO! Online has rounded up a guide of the biggest fashions we can expect in the upcoming season.

And with a plethora of different, and exciting, new trends, we predict you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to planning your wardrobe. Monochrome mania swept the runways, with Alexander Wang, Jason Wu and Marc Jacobs all unveiling gorgeous black and white confections. But it was monochrome master Karl Lagerfeld who nailed the trend, and the Chanel show was littered with stunning creations in the basic palette. Other designers, meanwhile, gave us some office wear inspiration with an unusual take on formalwear – forget skirts and trousers; the new way to wear a suit? With shorts. Michael Kors, Helmut Lang and Tory Burch all showed off their various takes on the trend, but all stuck to one rule – the shorts must be short.

And it appeared to be one of the sweetest seasons we've seen for a while. Designers in London, in particular, were keen to appeal to our sweet tooth with wares in shades of sherbet lemon, baby blue, spearmint and fondant pink. Christopher Kane toned down his edgy, Frankenstein nuts-and-bolts theme with the pretty, candy colours, while Erdem teamed his pastel-hued dresses with bright flowers. Another standout trend was leather. But showing this luxurious material is not confined to jackets and trousers, Monique Lhuillier and Derek Lam experimented with leather skirts and dresses.
