Cara Delevingne walks in Karl Lagerfeld's pared-back Chanel show

Karl Lagerfeld is known for his grand fashion show sets, but the fashion maestro went for a decidedly low key affair as he unveiled his pre-Spring/Summer 2013 collection in Singapore on Thursday. In a stark contrast to the usual opulence of the French settings Karl normally opts for, the 78-year-old held the show in former colonial British army barracks complete with concrete floors, whitewashed walls and strip lighting.

"I like the idea that it's not impeccable," Karl said of the unusual setting. "There's a romantic charm that new things cannot always have. It's not just about the historical details, but also the mood." Guests looked on as Cara Delevingne and Joan Smalls modelled the collection that fused the fashion house's heritage with Asian touches.

"It's a bit of Chanel's history and a bit of influence from this part of the world," Karl told WWD of the collection. "You don't get into the details, you reinvent the details." Colour remained neutral, with black and white dominating, but pops of colour came through the models' turquoise-lined eyes.
