This mind-twisting tale of ten ordinary people murdered one by one in an isolated hotel was too intriguing for actor John Cusack to pass up – even though he'd sworn he'd never get involved in a horror film.

However, reading the script got him hooked early on. "At page 50, I thought I had figured it out, but I hadn't," he says. "And then I kept going and by the end of it, I hadn't really seen any of these things coming."

The whodunnit, which has been alternately compared to The Sixth Sense and The Usual Suspects, isn't a "slasher movie", he explains. "It's more of a psychological thriller, you know, almost getting into the supernatural, too."

Actress Amanda Peet says the film's gloomy set was "the creepiest I have ever been on". Constantly drenched by rain machines, the cast flocked to a few space heaters brought in by the crew to keep dry. Remarks Amanda of her gallant co-star, "John always let the ladies warm up first."

Identity opens in the UK on June 27.
