BLUE PETER HONOUR FOR BRAD PITT

2 JULY 2003
Brad Pitt was apparently slightly confused to learn that he had been presented with a Blue Peter badge this week. In the British capital with fellow actor Joseph Fiennes to promote the cartoon Sinbad, the Hollywood hunk seemed "both pleased and a little nonplussed" by his new honour, revealed a BBC spokesperson.

Presumably his English co-star was able to explain the significance of the pins, which are awarded by the long-running children's TV programme to mark appearances on the show or special achievements. The badges are so universally recognised in the UK, they have become part of the national lexicon.

Konnie Huq, the show's presenter surprised the pair with the award during their busy promotional schedule for the new film. "Being English, Joseph understood the honour," said Konnie later. "I think he probably explained what it was all about to Brad. Joseph was certainly delighted."
