Movie fans in London experienced something of a time warp on Thursday night when King Arthur made a dramatic homecoming. A mounted guard, complete with armour and chain-mail, cantered into the heart of the capital to announce a new movie about the legendary ruler's life.
The soldier was doubtless impressed by the huge crowd that had gathered in Leicester Square, but most of the well-wishers were there to see the movie's stars Clive Owen, Ioan Gruffudd and Keira Knightley.
"It's fantastic, but I'll never get used to these crowds," admitted Keira, who plays a feisty Queen Guinevere in the flick. The young actress set the flashbulbs blazing in a silver-grey dress by Jill Sander, complemented by Jimmy Choo shoes and a generous sprinkling of Asprey diamonds.
Her glamorous outfit was a world away from her axe-wielding appearance in the movie, but Keira said she thoroughly enjoyed filming the battle sequences. "As a 19-year-old woman, you want to see really strong women in the cinema," she said. "If you're there, you might as well get stuck in."
Leading man Clive Owen also got a thrill out of the swashbuckling production. But Ray Winstone, who is well-known for his hardman roles, admitted to feeling outdone by his teenage co-star. "Keira is the best out of us all," he said. "She's a little fireball, but I wouldn't let her give me any tips - I'm not going to learn to fight from a woman."
