Pierce Brosnan, who has embodied world famous secret agent James Bond four times since taking over the role in 1995, thinks Colin Farrell would be perfect as the next 007.
"I'll give it to Colin Farrell. He'll eat the head off them all," he said after an entertainment awards ceremony in Dublin recently.
While names such as Ewan McGregor, Jude Law and Eric Bana have all been touted to continue the on-screen Bond legacy begun by Sean Connery, Pierce's favourite seems to be his fellow Irishman.
Colin, 28, appeared with Tom Cruise in the 2002 science fiction movie Minority Report and plays Alexander The Great in Oliver Stone's upcoming epic Alexander.
When asked recently by HELLO! about giving up his role as James Bond, Pierce said: "It's over now and, when they get the next guy, I'll fade quietly into my career as an actor."
But fading quietly does not at all appear to be on the cards for the busy 51-year-old. In his next film, After The Sunset, he plays an FBI agent alongside Salma Hayek and he has been discussing a possible film collaboration with director Quentin Tarantino.
Searching for a new actor to assume the role of the secret agent has been anything but easy. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) originally planned to release the next instalment of the film franchise in November 2005. However, due to the delays in finding a replacement, fans will have to wait until at least 2006 to see the new Bond in action.
