Just a few days before the Academy Awards are handed out in Los Angeles, best supporting actress nominee Sophie Okonedo has been making her mark on the red carpet back home in London. Dressed in a strapless grey chiffon creation, the pretty performer created an elegant impression at the UK premiere of her new film Hotel Rwanda.

Sophie plays the female lead in the heart-wrenching flick, which tells the story of how one courageous man managed to save over 1,200 people from genocide in the African country. The 36-year-old actress, who has been roundly applauded for her portrayal of Paul Rusesabagina's wife Tatiana, will be taking on Cate Blanchett, Laura Linney and Natalie Portman when the Oscar winners are announced next weekend.

But for the moment she's just happy the movie has proven such a success. Among the other celebs who came along to Monday night's screening was her fellow Brit Colin Salmon. The actor is best-known for his super-cool characters in Die Another Day and Resident Evil, but he showed a more light-hearted side to his personality when he arrived for the event. Laughing and joking with the photographers outside, he playfully donned a red and white sherpa-style hat with furry ear flaps.
