The performer, who provoked comparisons to silver screen legend Audrey Hepburn, brought traffic to a standstill as she filmed scenes for her latest flick Love And Other Disasters. And she's not the only American starlet making an impression on the city, as Scarlett Johansson was also spotted chatting with renowned director Woody Allen during a break from work on their new film.

The Lost In Translation star, who confesses to "adoring" her temporary home, says she is fascinated by the city's historic buildings. "The Tower of London - I can never get enough of that place," she enthused. "It’s just so ancient! The oldest thing we have in New York is, like, Starbucks on 79th Street.”

Brittany's enthusiasm for England has meanwhile provoked some friendly concern among her more formal hosts. "She is genuinely adorable, but she will say to people who she doesn't know, 'have an amazing day'," explained her British co-star Catherine Tate. "We say to her, 'people will think you are taking the mickey out of them if you say that with that level of sincerity, because we don't really do that over here!'."

Across the pond in New York one of the industry's biggest male stars was likewise busy lensing his latest flick and making an impact on passers-by. It was Richard Gere's hair, rather than his behaviour, that caught the attention of locals in Washington Square Park, however. The 55-year-old was barely recognisable after trading his trademark silver locks for a youthful brown look on the set of his new movie.
