London's theatre fans can look forward to getting up close and personal with America's hottest pop star after Justin Timberlake agreed to act in a West End play. The Rock Your Body singer will be moving to the British capital, along with his girlfriend Cameron Diaz, while he appears at the Old Vic next year.

Justin decided to swap the recording studio for the stage after his friend Kevin Spacey offered him a role in Resurrection Blues. The play, which was penned by Marilyn Monroe's husband Arthur Miller, is considered a challenging piece of theatre and is sure to test the 24-year-old's thespian talents.

The former N'Sync frontman has already proven his acting mettle, though. He was roundly applauded by critics for his portrayal of a fresh-faced journalist in the movie Edison and he is expected to make an even bigger impression in the forthcoming Alpha Dog.

Resurrection Blues meanwhile tells the story of a Latin American man who is thought to be the son of God. Hollywood heavyweight Robert Altman, who was behind Gosford Park and Short Cuts, has been drafted in to direct the complex work.

Justin is by no means the first American star to tread the boards in the West End, as big names including Nicole Kidman, Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow and Rob Lowe have all gone before him.
