The South African bombshell looked stunning as she took to the red carpet in a strapless champagne gown with burgundy fur stole. Inside the theatre fellow invitees got to see her on even more sizzling form as she donned skin-tight black leather and traded her trademark blond tresses for a sharp black bob to become the flick's ruthless heroine.

In preparation for her Academy Award-winning turn in Monster, the performer famously gained 30lbs - but playing Aeon presented some very different physical challenges. Talking to reporters outside the glitzy screening, she revealed that her years as a ballet dancer came in handy when she got to grips with the high-kicking role, but it required plenty of hard work nonetheless.

"I trained for about four months with Charlie Croughwell, who is the stunt coordinator, and his crew Mika and Terry," she explained. "Terry performed with Cirque de Soleil for 20 years and he really helped me with the gymnastic aspects, and the acrobatic, trampoline and wire work. And Mika really helped me with just getting ready, because I hadn't done anything with my body for two years, since Monster."

It would appear the actress was a little too willing to push herself to her limits though, as at one point, while filming a backwards handspring, the 30-year-old seriously injured her neck. The production was held up for several months as a result, but the indefatigable star bounced back into action as soon as the damage had healed.
