MAKE-UP ARTISTS NAME 'NATURAL' STARS

13 MARCH 2006

Over the years the cinema industry's make-up maestros have done a fine job of making fans believe their favourite stars look flawless day in, day out. But some of the silver screen's biggest names might be forgiven for reaching for their powder puffs today, after their lipstick-wielding friends revealed which of them require the most "help" to achieve a perfect complexion.

According to a newly-published report from the National Association of Screen Make-Up Artists And Hairdressers, not all of their subjects are natural beauties. British movie-goers will be glad to find that UK performers made a strong showing in the list of performers who require least cosmetic assistance, however.

Lost In Translation starlet Scarlett Johansson tops the rankings thanks to her alabaster complexion, while English Rose Kate Winslet comes second. And it would seem that Catherine Zeta-Jones also makes life easy for her behind-the-scenes helpers, as she came third.

In the male category, meanwhile, Orlando Bloom was enjoying a clear victory in first place. Brokeback Mountain's Jake Gyllenhaal was looking just as pristine in second and Johnny Depp gave an unblemished performance to take third.

Not every member of the Tinseltown A-list enjoys such good fortunes in the dermatological stakes, though. Cameron Diaz, Keira Knightley and Brad Pitt were all named as stars who need a little extra care before the cameras start rolling.
