He might be making headlines in Hollywood after parting ways with Paramount Pictures, but Tom Cruise seemed worlds away from the Tinseltown movie-making machine as he watched his children play baseball on Thursday in LA.
The devoted family man was the picture of contentment as he cheered on Conor and Isabella – his adopted kids with ex-wife Nicole Kidman. Relaxed in his jeans and leather jacket, the 44-year-old clapped and smiled as he watched the youngsters' ball game.
Tom, whose fiancée Katie Holmes gave birth to their daughter Suri in April, has yet to comment on the news that his contract with Paramount is not being renewed after a 14-year relationship with the studio. He is set to make a fresh start with his producing partner Paula Wagner as they form their own independent production company with money from two hedge funds.
Studio boss Sumner Redstone broke the news this week, citing Tom's "recent conduct" away from film sets as part of the reason for the split. "As much as we like him personally, we thought it was wrong to renew his deal," he said. "It's nothing to do with his acting, he's a terrific actor."
Meanwhile Cruise/Wagner Productions has said that the company "made a decision not to continue our relationship with Paramount."
The Minority Report star, whose films with Paramount Pictures have grossed more than $2.5 billion, is one of Tinseltown's most powerful players and not short of fans in the industry. Top Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who made Days Of Thunder with the actor, says: "He's a worldwide star and a lot of people want to work with him, including me."
