Jude Law discovers feminine side as transvestite supermodel

5 FEBRUARY 2009
The hypnotic blue eyes behind the heavy makeup are strangely familiar. Closer inspection reveals the 'girl' is in fact a boy - and a very recognisable one at that.

It's Jude Law, made up and wearing a rock chick wig for his new movie Rage, in which he portrays a transvestite supermodel named Minx.

The New York fashion scene-set murder mystery also features model Lily Cole - playing a starlet called Lettuce Leaf - and Judi Dench, who described it as "the most unusual piece of work I've ever done".

Director Sally Potter praised the actor's "courageous decision" to take the role. "Strangely, the more he became a 'she', coiffed and made-up, the more naked his performance," said the film-maker, who in 1992 cast Tilda Swinton as a man in indie hit Orlando.

Set to premiere at the Berlin Film Festival next week, the movie will be released in Britain later this year.
