Shia LaBeouf first came to fame in the early 2000s as the star of Disney show Even Stevens. He won a Daytime Emmy in 2003 for his portrayal of young teen Louis Stevens.

His big screen breakthrough came in 2007 when he starred in Disturbia as a teenager who believes his neighbour is a serial killer. It was the beginning of a film career which would often heavily feature character dramas.

The following year Shia took on two high profile franchise films - an adaptation of the story behind 1980s children's toys Transformers and the fourth film in the Indiana Jones series, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

The 28-year-old went on to star in two more Transformers films before deciding not to continue with the franchise, and in 2012 he appeared in crime thriller Lawless, which premiered at Cannes Film Festival. He returned to the festival circuit in 2014 at Berlinale with the five-and-half-hour-long uncut version of Lars Von Trier's Nymphomaniac.

The tempestuous actor has often caused controversy and been in trouble with the law; he was first arrested in 2005. At the 2014 premiere of his film Nymphomaniac he arrived at the red carpet wearing a brown paper bag over his head reading "I am not famous anymore".
