First look at Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt in new film By The Sea

Less than a week after Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt started work on their second film together, By The Sea, the first stills have been released. Entertainment Weekly have the first look images of the pair, as well as the first plot details.By The Sea will star the Hollywood A-listers as a married couple - roles they are definitely qualified for given their new status as husband and wife.

Set in the mid-1970s in France, Vanessa and Roland are travelling the country and yet slowly growing apart. When they decide to settle in a seaside village, it creates a change in their relationship as they begin to form friendships with the locals.

Speaking to the magazine, Angelina says: "I chose to set By the Sea in the 1970s, not only because it is a colourful and alluring era, but because it removes many of the distractions of contemporary life and allows the focus to remain squarely on the emotions that the characters experience in their journey."

Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley added: "I was struck by the fact that [Angelina] and Brad are willing to bring such a brave endeavour to screen and take audiences on this raw, emotional journey that’s simultaneously of its moment and surprisingly timeless."

Shooting will mainly take place in a huge seafront house, which has been erected on a cliff in Gozo to recreate the French Riviera.

According to reports, the Pitt-Jolie family will stay in Malta for around eight weeks, spending some time on a yacht to allow them more privacy and the chance to explore the gorgeous coastline.

The newlyweds first met on the set of 2005's Mr and Mrs Smith, and their latest project together sees Angelina in the director's chair for the third time.
