Neil Patrick Harris has bagged one of Hollywood's most coveted gigs – he is hosting the 2015 Oscars

The actor and Broadway star stepped into the shoes of previous presenter Ellen DeGeneres after she couldn't be persuaded to take on the role again. Announcing his exciting news, the 41-year-old posted a funny video of himself on Twitter going through his bucket list, showing what he's already achieved.

Neil had crossed off "get married", "win a Tony award" and "meet the president". He also had more unusual goals such as sawing a lady in half and sleeping in Cinderella's Castle. Right at the bottom was helming the Oscars. Ellen will be a hard act to follow after feeding actors such as Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie pizza during the 2014 Oscars and taking the most retweeted selfie of all time.

However, if anyone's the man for the job it's probably Neil. His Tony was won for his lead role in Hedwig and the Angry Inch on Broadway. He also features in Ben Affleck film Gone Girl, which is currently raking it in at the box office.

More importantly, he's presented both the Tony Awards and the Emmys before, performing showstopping opening numbers, that combined wit and glitz.

At the 2012 Tonys, he made his entrance on a rope dangling upside down like Spider Man. It's been an exciting year for Neil after he and his partner of ten years David Burtka finally tied the knot. The couple – who are the parents of four-year-old twins Harper Grace and Gideon Scott – wed in private ceremony in Italy.
